Using Fantastico to Install phpWCMS

In the world of website building, all webmasters face a whole lot of options, so if you are looking for a CMS (Content Management System) that makes your work easier, you might want to consider phpWCMS. This is a flexible system because not only does it allow for a wide range of support in the template end of things, you will find that the built in wizard makes the process of creating exactly the site you want much easier than having to either code everything by hand yourself or hire someone else to perform that for you. A phpWCMS template can consist of CSS style sheets that are industry standard, Javascript to give you a great deal more power and, of course, the good old standard, HTML.

Those using php WCMS have created extremely versatile sites that are impressive to see, but the best part of this particular CMS? It’s open source. That means you aren’t going to have to pay a dime to be able to use it and once you get past the learning curve, you will be able to build a very impressive and secure website that is a cut above the glut of “easy to use” cookie cutter websites that are spreading across the net in increasing numbers each day. Bear in mind, though, that there is a bit steeper learning curve for this CMS than there are for others and you might want to learn about about editing phpWCMS templates before you get started to make sure you have the skills to make exactly the site you want to.

As far as installing phpWCMS, Fantastico makes this a snap. All you need to do is navigate to your host, go into Fantastico and select phpWCMS. Then you will, of course, click ‘New Installation’.

After this, things get a little bit trickier. You will need to pick the domain you want phpWCMS installed on from the drop down menu. If you have sub domains or addon domains then you will need to be careful to pick the right place for your installation. After this, you will see ‘Install in directory’ which is asking you where, on your chosen domain, you want this installation to go. Keep in mind that if you want phpWCMS to run your main site, then you probably want to leave this field blank so that the script installs on your root directory. As an example of what that means, think of it this way: when you choose root then if you navigate to http://www.YourWebsiteName.com then you would see the site you made using phpWCMS. Other directories are generally chosen for those who wish to have other scripts running on their site and only have phpWCMS handle a portion of the what is offered at their domain.

Finally, you will enter your Administrator name, a password for the site that you will want to be sure to write down, your e-mail address for the site and a nickname (Admin full name) that you will use on the site. Remember, the nickname is what others see when they view your website so choose carefully and then hit ‘Install phpWCMS’.

That’s all you need to do to have phpWCMS installed on your own website!
